Buenos Tardes (Good afternoon)
Having arrived late Monday to my new home in San Miguel https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6823046 I’ve been getting both settled and acclimated. The village sits in the foothills of the mountains in Central Mexico at about 6,000′ and the temps range from 40’s at night to high 70’s daytime. The best thing is the blue blue sky. Or perhaps my patio where I will spend much of my time.
I’ll be blogging photos and will try to keep words to a minimum. If you click on the photos, they will enlarge.
Flying in to Leon, Mexico, I made new friends before disembarking and already look forward to an Oscars party. Meeting them on the street yesterday, we stopped for a marguerita
SMA is a beautiful Colonial village whose streets are roughly cobbled and far more perpendicular than San Francisco streets. My home is at the highest point. Yesterday I walked home….42 minutes straight up. In the future it will be a $2 taxi along with continued walking DOWN to el Centro.
The Colonial architecture is stunning with facades that hide gardens, terraces and family activity beyond.
The churches are beautiful both inside and out.
I’ve met my neighbors and tonight we’re going to a theater to hear jazz…its Jazz Week here in SMA. Everything about SMA is art, music, theater, etc. I’ve just completed a calendar of events from which to choose over the next week and it contains 19 things not counting the Super Bowl on Sunday!
Doors, windows, ceilings and flowers also catch my eye.
I’ve found Starbucks for my iced coffee and the ice cream man setting up at the Jardin so I’m good to go.
Belle Artes has sculpture, classes, exhibits and performances daily.
My host, Alfonso, has taken me to the grocery store and big Tuesday Market to stock up on supplies. I’m ready to start cooking!
My iPad’s dying and I’m off for some music. THANKS FOR JOINING ME AGAIN!
Hasta luego (see you later)
Sharon

Thanks Kathy. I’ve been writing in the travel journal you gave me over a year ago. Carry it everywhere and make notes. Meeting so many people. Great place.

Yes, Sherry, very much so….adjusting and creating a social network. Much chillier than Bali yet very comfy for me. Definitely getting my exercise! Keep thinking of you and your week also, Sherry.

Thanks, Sharon, for your post. I’m particularly interested in your pics and writings, as I’ll be going to San Miguel for the Day of the Dead celebrations in October. I’ll look forward to seeing more of your Mexico adventures.
